A Remade Internet Giant: Yahoo Topped Google’s July Traffic

Marissa Mayer scored some big points against her old company with a report that Yahoo topped Google’s traffic in July. The Yahoo CEO has been in the news a lot lately, most recently for her controversial photo shoot for Vogue, but this had to have given her some satisfaction: according to a third-party web analytics company, Yahoo’s traffic hit 197 million people compared to Google’s 192 million.

The report takes into account all of Yahoo’s sites such as Flickr and Yahoo Mail as well as Google’s aggregated sites. It seems that Yahoo has been steadily creeping up on Google since Mayer took the helm last year. At this year’s WIRED Business Conference, Mayer explained how she planned on turning Yahoo around in 2013. “One of the things we wanted to do was get into a much faster cadence, and release improved products as soon as possible,” Mayer said. “We’ve had some big successes so far, such as the Yahoo weather app.”
